One more day for this street festival and event . Rain or shine! A number of spring – happy to get out of the house. Late start for myself. A good number of folks enjoying the misty afternoon.

Taking the nation’s largest celebration of African diasporic dance and music to the street, DanceAfrica’s beloved bazaar returns this Memorial Day Weekend, featuring more than 150 vendors from around the world. FDNY pays tribute to its members who made the Supreme Sacrifice at 2026 Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony. Held Thu, May 21, 2026.

The FDNY gathered Thursday, May 21, 2026, to remember the Department’s members who made the Supreme Sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The ceremony included the reading of names of FDNY members who have died while on active military duty. In addition, to recognize 25 years since September 11, 2001, the names of the FDNY military veterans who died in the line of duty that day were also read.

The annual ceremony takes place at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island in coordination with VFW Post 12033. The VFW Post is named after fallen firefighter and Staff Sergeant Christian Engeldrum, who served in the Army National Guard. He died on November 29, 2004, when a roadside bomb exploded near the convoy he was traveling in.

After leaving the Eagle, caught the train home. Waiting for the Q, the R train pulling out of the station – managed to capture this. What I found –

“Find What You Love in New York State”
    I Love NY campaign

Created by Milton Glaser in 1977, the purpose of the I LOVE NY mark was to promote tourism to New York State. The iconic mark represents the State’s 11 vacation regions, New Yorkers’ affinity for their home state, endless branding opportunities for merchandise and advertising campaigns, and is one of the most recognized logos of modern day.

    Watkins Glen State Park

The American Revolution and Watkins Glen State Park

The area around Seneca Lake included several Indigenous villages that were burned by the advancing American army during the brutal 1779 Sullivan-Clinton campaign. These areas included the lake’s inlet at Catherine Creek, Montour Falls, and what is known today as Watkins Glen. Both the falls and a nearby village were known as She-Qua-Ga, a variation of “roaring” or “tumbling water” in the Seneca language.

This State Park is part of thefingerlakes region of NYS.

For the Subway / Transit enthusiasts, an R train without the old deco-cars will still take a bit to get use to.

The “Reach New York: An Urban Musical Instrument” installation is still active and operating.
Created by artist Christopher Janney in 1995 the interactive sound sculpture continues to run 24/7 on both the uptown and downtown N/Q/R/W platforms.
